Misty, Kitty with MegaColon

Organized by No Greater Love Animal Charity

Update from March 5, 2010
From Misty's Dad:

"Sorry since it has been a few days since an update. It had been one of those weeks that nothing seems to go as planned. I havenâ??t taken any extra photos since last time. I took my camera to work to upload some work photos and kept forgetting to bring the camera back home. I have it now though and expect I should be able to get some good photos this weekend. Misty continues to keep getting better. A couple of times this week she even played with me some using the mouse on the end of the string teaser toy that I have. You can tell that she is still in recover mode however as she didnâ??t want to play for long before she would find herself a snug spot and rest a little. Her appetite continues to improve more and more and in fact, I have started mixing in a little dry food with the canned food to give her a little variety. Another thing that I have noticed is that she seems to be getting more control of her bowel movements. She still has her little accidents as I will call them, but the accidents are fewer in between and not as large or messy as they were being. The poo still has a loose consistency, but the fact that she seems to be gaining control of her movements is another sign of her ongoing positive recovery. Her tail is beginning to get a little messy again as it seems you can only do so much with a damp cloth. So, even though I know she will not like it, I will probably give her another good bath in the morning."

Update from February 28, 2010
From Misty's Dad:
"Attached are some more photos of Misty. She seems to be starting to get a little more energy in her based on the fact that she is much more bright eyed and is moving through the house more. However, she still isn't interested in playing much which is still probably a good thing at this point. I have noticed some small chunks in her poo here recently. I know that sounds gross but for me it is significant because that gives me a sign that the recovery is still going well and that her bowel movements may be beginning the process of starting to firm up instead of diarrhea. I know that the loose stool is aggravating for her. I gave her the first full bath yesterday morning instead of just cleaning her off with a damp cloth. Of course she didn't really enjoy that but it did seem to make her feel better latter on in the day. The first pic attached shows her laying on the bed curled up trying to ignore me afterward. Her way of showing her displeasure in my actions. To bad she doesn't realize that I actually find this quite cute. Later in the day once she got over that she was up and about exploring everything and at one time climbed up on the tree and started staring out the window as she use to like to do. I have a pic of her as she is standing watching some birds out the window attached as well. The last picture attached shows her back on my bed resting this morning. As mentioned, she still seems to be low on energy but I guess that is still to be expected. However, she is beginning to approach me more wanting my attention like she used to instead of being stand offish. I view this as a positive sign that she is definitely beginning to feel more like her old self. I will send more photos as I take them and again thank you so much for your help.

Update from February 21, 2010
From Misty's Dad:
"I have attached some photos below of Misty. The first pic was taken Friday a week ago the first time I brought her home. As you can see, she is having to wear a collar and if I didnâ??t know any better I would think it made her top heavy. After proceeding to make a mess in the litter box as you can see, she then went to the bed and began to start trying to groom herself and promptly rolled out of the bed onto her head. At which point she gave me one of her classic hell to go looks as I couldnâ??t help but giggle.

"She seemed kinda of week yesterday and didnâ??t eat much but did eat some last night before I put her in the pen for the night. She also ate a little more over last night and a little more this morning and thus seems to have a little more energy than she did yesterday. Though she isnâ??t eating as much as I wished she would it is a start. I know it will take a little while to recover from this big a surgery. Again, I canâ??t thank everyone enough for the help. I will provide some more pics as I get them. I am sure over the next week or two she will continue to grow stronger and I will be able to get some pictures of her as she begins coming back into her old self. "

HOW AWESOME IS THAT!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I cannot express to all of you how grateful I am for the HUGE response we got from the animal community in reaching this goal of $2,200...

I know Misty's owner is going to be so overwhelmed with the love and generosity she has generated. She is a whopping 4 pounds and this life saving surgery is her chance at living a normal and healthy life...thank you for giving her the opportunity.

I know Suanne at No Greater Love is in complete awe too!! I don't think any of us expected to raise this amount of money in two weeks.

So I will leave the link active and keep everyone informed of Misty's surgery, recovery and prognosis.

Blessings and best wishes to all...
Suzanne

NEW GOAL $2,200
To be on the "safe" side of things I have increased the goal to $2,200...

$2000 for surgery
$200 for "in case"

If we reach $2,000 I will be more than happy...

Update from vet (Dr. Krum)
So we contacted the vet with the awesome news that we had reached our goal of $1,000...she's completely in awe that we collected that much in donations in only four days...

But...Uh oh...not so fast...apparently our goal number is so far off!!

The Birmingham vet bill will be closer to $2,000...so we have gone ahead and changed our goal to $2,200 and we will continue to "solicit" donations until we can reach that number.

I am so utterly sorry for any confusion. This is what happens when you are not completely in the loop. I (Suzanne, the fundraising queen) get pulled in by groups and people other than my core volunteer groups (SNAP and Forgotten Felines) and so I don't talk with the vets on a personal level. I rely on the information given to me by, say, No Greater Love, and it's leader.

Having friends that span many different organizations is also quite helpful and this is how I came upon the information today.

A friend had an appointment with Dr. Krum, told her of our efforts and then was informed of the "true" cost of the surgery.

I don't like getting hit from the blindside...I try to be as honest and up front as possible. For this mistake I am sorry.

I again put the plea out there for additional monies...

With thanks for your generosity...
With regret for asking for more...

Suzanne

Ok...thank you is so not enough!!!
So I go to bed last night and there might have been $485 donated to the fundraiser...I wake up, log in, and begin to cry.

HOW AWESOME ARE YOU FOLKS!!!

We are at 1/21/10, 9:50am and we are at 90% of reaching our goal.

To all the contributors: THANK YOU!!
To all those who spread the word: THANK YOU!!!

To all of you...I am humbled by your support and generosity...

Blessings to all!!
